Need a Break? The Power of the Pause

We're nearing the end of the first quarter. How are you keeping up? Leadership requires constant decision-making, emotional awareness, and the ability to hold complexity. Those demands pull from different parts of our internal capacity.
Many leaders focus on productivity strategies. Fewer examine the systems that support sustainable leadership energy.
Self-care for leaders is not one practice. It is a set of practices that support the mind, emotions, nervous system, and identity.
Protecting your boundaries and making time to rest can be inconvenient, interrupting workflow, delaying communication, and impacting timelines. However, given current economic challenges and global tensions, making space for the rest you need may be especially valuable this year.
This month, identify the type of rest you most need—emotional, mental, identity, or nervous system rest. Reflect on this and then join my LinkedIn discussion on the Spring Self-Care Menu, where I invite you to share your insights and take specific, practical steps to support your leadership energy.
Stepping away to focus on yourself offers a chance to set and maintain boundaries around your time, particularly when out of the office. If you observe a religious holiday, consider sharing its significance with colleagues to foster understanding and connection.
This spring, commit to a specific period of disconnection and reflection. Observe how taking real time off renews your energy and focus, and consider writing about your experience to reinforce your commitment to sustainable leadership.

First Quarter Gift to You

Each month, our executive coaching community and the Getting Unstuck coaching circle meet to share resources and tools to achieve personal and professional goals. Earlier this month, the group discussed self-awareness, focusing on personal reflections and creating systems to support our goals.
If you need community to support your self-awareness and leadership journey, join us in this free resource for our collective growth.

Executive coaching client Rosemond Owens' family philanthropic commitment to Ghana was featured by the Minneapolis Foundation. It’s an inspiring read. It’s wonderful to see Rosemond and her family receive this well-deserved recognition.

At The Great Collide Conference 2026, LW’s client relations lead, E. Danielle Butler, joined leaders to examine purpose and influence. Danielle shared, "Be sure to document the moments and movements you're a part of. They'll become the blueprint for the next generation.” Her perspective emphasized the intersection of faith, leadership, and narrative impact.
