The Gift of Perspective

Letter from Meredith
Early August was hectic. I traveled to Martha’s Vineyard for the second annual Momentum Summit, bringing together leaders from the social justice, Black philanthropy and education spaces to connect and collaborate on issues facing the community. This event, which I created with Dr. Tashion Macon, is a labor of love—emphasis on both labor and love!
If you’ve ever planned a remote event, you know what I mean: My co-organizers and I are all small-business owners who are accustomed to being laser focused on clients’ projects, making it harder to prioritize our own event, and get accurate estimates for the time, money, and brain power required to pull off a top-notch summit. And yet it all came together in the end!

But my personal goal for the Momentum project is to be part of something bigger than me, my business, and my local community. In the weeks leading up to the event, I was reminded to pick my head up, zoom out, and keep my eyes on the prize. That reminder—that our daily life is just a tiny piece of the puzzle—is worth the investment. Perspective is a gift.
The biggest gift, though, was connecting with a roomful of powerful leaders focused on progress and lifting each other up. That’s what keeps me committed, year after year.
What causes, people, and places help you gain perspective? I’m always looking for inspiration, so hit reply and let me know!
